100 Music Videos; (in no particular order)
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Thrift Shop Ft. Wanz.IF YOU DON’T LOVE THIS SONG/MUSIC VIDEO YOU ARE WRONG
why is Malcamore all of a sudden so huge…
Because of this song haha. Trendy hipsters like it because they want people to think they go thrift shopping when they actually get everything from Urban Outfitters.
In all reality though, I really enjoy this song and Macklemore, because I enjoy that style of hip-hop.

So TBS is about to premier a new reality show called King of The Nerds.
Basically it’s a show where twelve nerdy people compete in stupid contest to see who is the “nerdiest” among them. Like this to me is the definition of our day and age, if you were forced to describe the current pop culture you could probably accomplish it by saying “King of the Nerds” and “Honey Boo Boo”.
We enjoy ridiculous things because they’re ridiculous and I get that but there is just something so unsettling about this new show and i can’t quite put my finger on it.
o wait, yeah I totally can
Perfection dude. I often have discussions with my friends most notably Sam, who also hates Zooey Deschandiandfoandfl or however you spell it and Big Bang Theory. I believe there are two kinds of nerds that the media is portraying, and I don’t like it.
One is the Zooey nerd. The quirky, cute, sexy, but likes some comic books just a little nerd. The problem with this massively appealing portrayal is that one, most “nerds” are not like that at all. There’s only a small margin of the population in general that is like that.
The other is the Sheldon (Big Bang Theory) nerd, or someone who is really really weird and nerdy. Likes Dungeons and Dragson, ya know, whole nine yards. The problem with this portrayal is that they’re capitalizing on the exploitation of a subculture by making fun. Not all “nerds” are like this either.
Like you said, labeling others/yourself (yourself particularly i think, people don’t ever say it’s bad to label yourself but it is) is really dumb. Most “nerds” are just “normal” humans, because most of the population is “normal.” Life would be so much better if the words “nerd” and “hipster” never existed. Nowadays, people are trying so hard to “be” these things because they have become trendy.
The ironic thing about the hipster is that a true hipster is someone who does things solely in a manner that makes them a hipster, and then they deny that they are hipsters. For example, they will literally like bands completely based upon the fact they’re not well known or dress in a way that isn’t them at all, but is “hipster.” Many of these individuals have gone through phases before (scene, emo, goth, grunge, etc.). Not that most people haven’t or that I haven’t, but it’s just something I’ve noticed.
Aside from these people though, life has gotten really strange for a lot of individuals like myself, who like things regardless of what category it places them in. For example, I like indie and folk music, not because it’s trendy and it makes me cool and better than other people, but because my friend Andrew introduced me to it several years ago, and I got really into it because I liked the lyrics and musical style. I did go through the whole emo music and appearance, but I got out of it and have been trying to refine my style into something that I enjoy for myself: classic with a twist.
(wow I got off topic) but same thing with the nerd culture. things have gotten really confusing recently, because on one hand you have people running around pretending they like comic books solely based upon Thor’s appearance (different that people who just like the movie, that’s fine, i’m talking about people who are literally trying to come off as “nerdy” and “quirky”). On the other hand you have ignorant nerd trolls going around claiming that others aren’t really nerds or fans, without even knowing the person.
news flash: people are allowed to like things. people are allowed to like just the movie. i don’t really read too many comics, but i really like comic book movies, and read a lot of wikipedia articles and such. it’s ok. people are allowed to like the spiderman movie and that’s it. people are allowed to like dungeons and dragons while being the quarterback of the football team and the most popular guy in school.
everyone should just stop focusing on liking (or disliking!) things so that people will see them in a different light, and just like whatever they darn please.
